Mario Lartigue
A Mission to Open the Scriptures Together
For Mario Lartigue, becoming the new minister at the Quitman Church of Christ begins with a simple invitation: open the Bible together. He and his wife, Kathy, are introducing their family to the community with a desire to build relationships, serve others and help people know Christ through Scripture. Lartigue brings decades of ministry experience, a background in serving families and a love for teaching that connects biblical truth with everyday life. His goal is to encourage people to examine what the Bible says, understand it in context and put it into practice.
A life of teaching and service
His ministry background includes preaching and Bible teaching at Grady Street Church of Christ in Houston from 1993 to 2015, where he developed Bible-class curriculum, led congregational singing and helped organize outreach. He also established a weekly phone prayer line and participated in visitation for the sick and those unable to attend services.
From 2015 to 2019, he taught Bible classes and led worship at Kleinwood Church of Christ in Houston. More recently, he served as a deacon and worship coordinator at North Jefferson Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant., helping with worship arrangements, visitation and congregational service.
His preparation includes more than 20 years of study under the late John Q. Williams at Grady Street and continued study through World Video Bible School. Beyond ministry, his professional background includes work supporting families, helping keep children safely in their homes and connecting families with resources. He also works as a local truck driver with NFI.
Scriptures that keep him grounded
Three Bible passages express the convictions he hopes to bring to his work in Quitman.
The first is 2 Timothy 2:15, which calls believers to study and seek God's approval while rightly handling the word of truth. For Lartigue, that means measuring his teaching and his life by God's Word, rather than asking Scripture to fit his own opinions. He connects that responsibility with 2 Timothy 3:16-17, where Scripture equips the person of God for good works.
His second favorite passage, Matthew 22:37-39, joins loving God with loving one's neighbor. He sees those commands as closely connected: learning to love God first helps him understand how to care for others in the way God desires. That conviction shapes his approach to family life, ministry and community relationships.
The third is John 14:6, where Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (KJV). For Lartigue, this keeps the focus on Christ as the one to follow and the way to the Father. Together, these passages give him a foundation for faithful study, love for others and a life directed by Christ.
Faith and everyday family life
At home, Mario and Kathy enjoy good food and cooking, and their children often join them in the kitchen. With four children, family life includes plenty of activity: outdoor play, video games for the boys and toy cooking sets for their younger daughter.
The family also enjoys movie nights and board games. Those ordinary moments are part of what they value most: time together and gratitude for the blessings God has given them.
"We try our best to enjoy what God has given us."
Mario's interests also include singing, music composition and production, photography, video and fitness. These creative pursuits are another way for neighbors to get to know the person behind the pulpit.
One lesson, explored together
READ > CONTEXT > COMPARE > UNDERSTAND > DEDUCE > APPLY
Beginning Sunday, October 18, 2026, worship will start at 9:30 a.m., followed by Bible class at 10:45 a.m. The change supports Lartigue's approach to teaching: the sermon introduces a biblical thought, and the class explores that same lesson more deeply through Scripture, questions and practical application.
Rather than moving between unrelated subjects in the same morning, the congregation will spend time developing a connected understanding of the lesson. Visitors will have an opportunity to hear the message in worship and then examine the passages with the class, learning how to study and apply them.
The teaching will also explain the gospel of Christ and the response it calls for, inviting those who are studying to consider what Scripture teaches about following Jesus. Lartigue wants the community to feel welcome to bring a Bible, ask questions and study together.
He describes his purpose as a mission to find his brothers and sisters in Christ by opening the Scriptures together. As he and his family begin this chapter in Quitman, their invitation is simple: get to know us, come study with us and let us look to Christ together.
